Bad hair with Vidal Sassoon Straighteners

Bought some Vidal Sassoon Straighteners last week and they were so terrible!!  Didn't curl my hair, burnt my fingers holding them and didn't run smoothly through my hair at all.  So just letting you all know that these are a bad buy.  I have now ordered myself some GHD's - what I should have done in the first place.  Buy them at ASOS and you will save yourself around $100!

Lonely Miaow's Charity Tan-a-thon

Please come along and support a fantastic Auckland charity Lonely Miaow at New Zealand's first ever Tan-a-thon!  Help us to raise much needed funds to help us care for abandoned, injured and stray cats and kittens all over Auckland.  I really appreciate the support by our sponsor Spraytanz who will be helping us on the day.

A visit to ZARA, Sydney

Last weekend was spent relaxing in the beautiful sunshine in Sydney and of course a spot of shopping specifically at the new ZARA store.  I could have gone wild but with boyfriend in tow I could only do a quick shop.  I still managed to come away with 4 new items - here is a pic of the wide-legged silk pants I purchased.  I am looking foward to trying out my bright orange jeans as well.  Bright colours are one of the main themes on the racks and I am loving the vibrant orange!

Lonely Miaow

I've just taken on a voluntary role of Marketing & Fundraising Manager for a fantastic charity called Lonely Miaow.  Based in Auckland they take care of stray and abandoned cats all over the Auckland region.  Watch out for some exciting fundraising events coming this way... who said fashion and animals don't mix!

Back on track!

It's been a busy time of year.... summer is upon us and there will be lots to talk about fashion-wise.  NZ Fashion Week has been and gone, will NZ keep this event going??  Not so sure...

Anyway, I think lace is still going to be popular for summer....

OSIS +

Having fine hair can be a real pain when you want to give some height and boofiness to your do.  So when my hairdresser suggested Osis hair dust I was very intrigued... how had I never heard of this product before?  The easiest way to explain it is that it's like talcum powder which you shake ever so lightly into your hair.  It creates texture and a matt finish rather than a shine.  Pricey at the hairdresser but you can grab this on strawberrynet too.

Ring of silver

I have spent the last 8 weeks at a fantastic contemporary jewellery course at a place called Workshop 6 based in Kingsland, Auckland.  I've always wanted to learn how to make proper silver jewellery so this course definitely gave me the skills to do this and I came away with something I'm quite proud of.

Bird in a Bunnysuit

I've been coming across these great little gift cards in a few shops recently as well as craft markets, I thought they were cute and quirky and would be lovely in a frame so I got in touch with Bayley Collins the designer and requested a customised print size especially for a new frame I had.  The print I chose is called 'Hoo.. me?'  Her website is www.birdinabunnysuit.co.nz

OAT's biodegradable sneakers

OAT's was founded by Dutch designer Christiaan Maats in 2008 with a goal to create environmentally and imaginative products.  Check out this sneaker below - fully biodegradable, once they come to the end of their life, plant in the garden and watch them sprout into wildflowers!  Choice!

Outlook for next summer.... ah not so sure

Want to see what is in store for us next summer?  Top Shop's first look for summer below.   Now I like pieces that are a bit different but I think this is going a little far.  I'm sure we will see hoards of girls following the trend as they do and in large groups!  Get me a bucket please.

Cha Cha Cha

Do you know of anyone looking for a latin dance dress?  I'm selling this little number as I am no longer dancing unfortunately.  Last worn in 2009 (just the once) I designed this dress myself and had it made here in Auckland.  It's made of red chiffon with a Lycra leotard on the inside.  It is covered in sequins and Swarovski crystals.  Check out my shop for further details.

Black Swan Wardrobe

I recently watched the award winning Black Swan and thoroughly enjoyed it, all the right elements for me - a psychological thriller and ballet in one.  Along with the great story line I took note of the fantastic dancewear.  As a dancer in my early years I can appreciate the need for style, comfort and functionality of dancewear. I found an article on Black Swan wardrobe designer Amy Westcott in Dancetrack Magazine.  Interesting to note that Rodarte's vulture-inspired Autumn 2010 collection also provided Amy the inspiration for the white and black swan tutus and hair pieces.

Spare a Thought for The Gift

Once again my favourite label Sass and Bide gets another post.  With a new range available in stores (and online) there is plenty to catch your eye.  What I like about the first pic is the military inspired shirt (The Gift) that would be great with black pants, skinny jeans or some patterned harem pants as seen here.   Screams style and comfort.

Or go more glam with these 'Spare Thoughts' pants made of foil-coated jersey.
